The word Moga translates to modern girl.
Not quite a year had passed since the great Earthquake of 1923 and mass culture had begun to exert an influence on the daily lives of Japanese society. The Modern girl began to appear on the city streets of Tokyo. With her short bob hair doo and her Western style of dress she quickly caught the public eye and became a symbol of a new interwar social phenomenon.
Moga was incarnated in popular culture through such media as magazines (posters and magazine covers seen on our restaurant walls), movies, radio, popular music and Jazz.
